Chevron's New Ad Campaign Snakebit

Two days after the Myanmar crackdown on peaceful Buddhist monks, Chevron announced with great fanfare its new ad campaign called "The Power of Human Energy". The ads will highlight "how energy affects all our lives as well as the level of commitment, ingenuity and responsibility Chevron employees practice every day to bring energy supplies to global markets."

One might expect responsible Chevron leaders to cut off the money tap to the Myanmar military junta. Chevron owns 28% of an oil field in the oppressive country. Together with Total SA they own 60% of the production site which funds the junta through a production sharing agreement.

Total SA explains this on their website. Myanmar only appears as checks in a column on Chevron's. So much for the power of real human energy. It got snuffed out by the heavy hand of violence by a junta, which western oil money directly supports. Yet, Chevron's ad campaign carries on, aided by the liberal blogsite DailyKos. Apparently, it is all about money...

Update 10-6-2016:  With Condoleezza Rice on the Chevron Board of Directors U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened up Myanmar/Burma for U.S. investment in 2012.
